Disaster Bay

Disaster Bay, so called because 19th century trading ships plying the Sydney to Melbourne route hugged the coast, but if they turned into this bay, found it was almost impossible to sail out again.

Because of prevailing winds? It's a lovely bay, so understandable that it would seem an attractive anchorage.

From what I read in the NSWNP Shipwreck Report it is because of inshore sea currents. If they hugged the coast too closely they ended up foundering on Green Cape (the northern side of the bay).
